The VFX Industry And Online Outsourcing

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Lately, there seems to be a lot of talk regarding the problems VFX professionals are facing in the industry. Many studios all over the world are being forced to shut down because they cannot remain profitable in their highly competitive market. California has been the poster boy for this problem, but it’s a problem that is happening everywhere. This is a very difficult and sad situation that is affecting all studios around North America. Too many of these failed studios are not doing a proper job of managing their VFX production pipeline.

One solution that is being discussed by industry professionals is the idea of outsourcing some VFX work to various cities and countries around the world.

Outsourcing is not new and it’s not going to go away.  It may be time for people in the VFX industry to embrace the idea and see the great potential it could bring. The state of the industry right now is not great and could use some fresh innovative ideas. If more outsourcing was being done, small or mid size studios could supplement their income between big studio projects with smaller international projects from the comfort of their own studio.

Software Management Tools, such as the Talk Management System, are making this idea a reality. The TPM makes it possible for studios to manage their pipeline and outsource to anywhere in the world while staying in touch with one another in real time and working together to create the best, most cost efficient productions.
